BS EN 15232 — Why Your Controls Class Matters
BS EN 15232 ranks Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) into four efficiency classes: A (high-performance), B (advanced), C (standard, the regulatory baseline) and D (non-energy-efficient). Moving an existing estate from Class C to Class B or A typically unlocks 15–30% savings on HVAC energy — the business case for most BMS upgrades. We design new systems to Class A and assess existing estates against the standard.
Part L — Building Regulations
Approved Document L sets the minimum energy-efficiency requirements for new and refurbished commercial buildings. Compliance covers metering and sub-metering, fabric and plant efficiency, automatic controls, time and zone control, and commissioning to CIBSE Commissioning Code M. We deliver controls scopes, points schedules and as-built documentation that satisfy Part L sign-off.
MEES — Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards
From April 2023, non-domestic landlords cannot continue to let property with an EPC rating below E. The bar rises to C in 2027 and B in 2030. BMS and BEMS upgrades — optimisation, demand-led controls, improved sub-metering — are one of the most cost-effective routes to lifting an EPC band, especially on stock that is already mechanically sound.
F-Gas Regulations
F-Gas (the retained EU 517/2014) governs the use of fluorinated refrigerants in HVAC plant. Operators must ensure leak-detection systems are in place on systems above defined thresholds, with logged checks and refrigerant accounting. We integrate refrigerant leak-detection and pressure trending into the BMS so compliance evidence is automatic.
